There will be an informal gathering at the hotel on the night of Friday, March 10 and a banquet on Wednesday, March 15. A detailed schedule will be posted on our site before the meeting. For the full experience, plan to arrive on Friday afternoon and leave on Thursday morning. You can find information about air travel, ground transportation, etc. on our web site. Everyone who applied for funding from the Southwestern Center should have gotten a message by now about their funding status. If you applied for a project and have not heard anything then you were not assigned to a project. (There were more students seeking projects than we could accommodate and we gave preference to advanced students who had not previously done projects. But keep in mind that you may informally participate in a project if you like.) The rest of this message is mostly relevant to those who want to attend using their own resources. Most participants will be staying at the Four Points by Sheraton Tucson University Plaza Hotel (link and address below). If you mention the Arizona Winter School they will give you a conference rate which amounts to about $125 per night including taxes. The hotel is adjacent to the campus and within easy walking distance of the Winter School, as well as restaurants and stores. You can find links to lists of other hotels, possibly cheaper but more distant, on our web site. There is no formal regstration procedure for the AWS, but we ask that all participants contact Sandy Braun, the conference coordinator, with your contact and travel information. If the hotel is reluctant to give you the conference rate, please contact Sandy Braun and she will put you on the list of conference participants.
